Professional Portfolio Management
Scott Stewart is a research associate professor
in the Finance and Economics Department at Boston University School
of Management, and the faculty director of the Master of Science in
Investment Management (MSIM)
program. Dr. Stewart joined Boston University following a career in
portfolio management running global equity, fixed income, and asset
allocation money, including 14 years at Fidelity Investments, where
he was founder and equity group leader of the $45 billion Structured
Investments Group. He managed the Fidelity Fifty® Fund, Fidelity
Select EquityTM Portfolios and Perpetual America Fund and
co-managed the Fidelity Freedom Funds®, earning recognition for
superior investment performance from Micropal, the Financial Review,
The Wall Street Journal and Barron's. He was also a senior advisor
to equity research at Fidelity and earlier a portfolio manager at
State Street Bank Asset Management Division (now State Street Global
Advisors). His research interests include portfolio management
techniques, the behavior of institutional investors, equity
valuation, and the use of technology in investment management. He
speaks at both academic and practitioner conferences and has
published articles in The Financial Analysts Journal, Journal of
Portfolio Management, and The Financial Review. Dr. Stewart
actively manages money, consults, and teaches courses in investment
research and portfolio management. He earned his MBA and PhD in
finance at Cornell University and is a CFA charterholder
Christopher Piros is an independent professional
with over twenty years of experience conducting research, developing
strategy, and managing portfolios. As Director of Investment Strategy
and Portfolio Management at Prudential Investments LLC he established
and led PI’s discretionary portfolio management activities from de
novo operation to over $15 billion. He and his team also formulated
the investment strategy advice disseminated through the firm’s wealth
management platform. Earlier he was a senior vice president and global
fixed income portfolio manager at MFS Investment Management. Before
assuming portfolio management responsibilities, he established and
headed the firm’s fixed income quantitative analysis group. Prior to
MFS he developed valuation and derivatives intensive strategies at
Drexel Burnham Lambert’s Quantitative Asset Management Group and was
on the finance faculty of Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
He teaches in the MSIM programs
at both Boston University and Reykjavik University and is on the
advisory board of the program at BU. His research has been
published in the Journal of Finance. Dr. Piros earned his PhD in
Economics at Harvard University and is a CFA charterholder.
Jeffrey Heisler is the chief risk officer and
chief compliance officer at Venus Capital Management, an investment
advisor that specializes in relative value trading strategies in
emerging markets. Previously he was a senior analyst for Gottex
Fund Management, a leading fund of funds manager with AUM over $8
billion. Dr. Heisler was an assistant professor in the Finance
and Economics Department at Boston University School of Management,
and the founding faculty director of the Master of Science in
Investment Management (MSIM)
program. He remains active in the MSIM program as a member of
the advisory board and an occasional teacher at both Boston University
and Reykjavik University. His research on the behavior of
individual and institutional investors has been published in both
academic and practitioner journals. He earned his MBA at the
University of Chicago and his PhD in finance at New York University.
He is also a CFA charterholder.
